In Youngstown I Trust

As most know I grew up and lived in Youngstown, Ohio for the first 27 years of my life in a suburb on the west side of the city. Youngstown is located 65 miles southeast of Cleveland and 62 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Here is a quick summary of the history of Youngstown. During the time period between the 1920's and the 1960's the city was based around big named companies such as Republic Steel and U.S. steel and was also the headquarters for one of the nations most important steel producers. This led the city to begin booming in industry and had a large portion of immigrants coming from Eastern Europe. Everything was happy happy joy joy in The "Yo". However, on September 19th, 1977 brang the announcement of the closure of the big name steel companies. As I recently learned this event is known by many Youngstowners as "Black Monday".

Youngstown still has not recovered from this economical disaster. Today the biggest employers are General Motors in Lordstown and Youngstown State University (My alum..wooooooot!). When you have economical struggle in a city, you will always have an increase in crime and violence. According to Morgan Quinto Corporation; Youngstown is ranked 9th in the country for most "dangerous" cities. Here is the top 10:

1. St. Louis
2. Detroit
3. Flint
4. Compton
5. Camden
6. Birmingham
7. Cleveland
8. Oakland
9. Youngstown
10. Gary

Even though this is a black eye for the city of Youngstown, it is still the place where I grew up and learned many lessons. The suburbs surrounding the city continue to be the backbone to the city, hopefully in the future I can say the opposite. Until than I will continue to show love for the city of Youngstown and the great people who reside there. With all the violence and negativity that surrounds the city, I still have faith and trust in the people. Long live the "Yo".

Other quick thoughts:
